This is a post in a series about the Get Close to Your Food Chef's Tour.
-----------------------------------------------------------
One day, while on a break at The Wooden Monkey, I checked my Facebook and saw message in my inbox. I had been invited on the first Get Close To Your Food Chef's Tour put on by the department of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Aquaculture. There was my name, as part of a message sent to Chefs from the city I respected like Chef Ray Bear, and Bee Choo Char of Gio, Chef Erwin Palo from the Westin Hotel, and Chef Chris Velden of Ryan Duffy’s, among others. That felt great. I booked both dates off work minutes later, and confirmed my spots.
When I saw the itinerary I was excited to learn that we would be exploring most areas of mainland Nova Scotia, seeing a wide variety of producers and farms, and visiting some purveyors that supply The Wooden Monkey. Here is where we went:
Day 1: October 19
- Bowlby Quality Meats Ltd. Processing Plant, Kingston
- King's Processing Plant, Middleton
- The Port Gastropub, Port Williams
- FoxHill Cheese House, Port Williams
- TapRoot Farms, Port Williams
Day 2: October 26
- Oultons Farms, Windsor
- Terra Beata Cranberry Farm, Lunenburg
- The Salt Shaker Deli, Mahone Bay
- Indian Point Marine Farms, Mahone Bay
I took about 1200 pictures and 30 min of video, over the next few days, you’ll see the best of it!
Here's a few shots from all the locations to get started - Enjoy!
